There once was a boy named Donald
Who said, “So what!” when he didn’t like what he was told
One day his father said
When Donald climbed out of bed
“There’s two kinds of people—killers and losers—and you’ll never be a winner”
“Now go collect rent from the coloreds, and don’t be late for dinner.”
“I don’t care about those people” thought Donald, “So what?”
As Donald’s businesses continued to fail, and his stock became the laughing kind
More troubles ensued, but Donald learned not to mind
“Your taxes aren’t paid!” Weisselberg would say,
“You’ve got three new subpoenas, and that’s just today!”
“So what?” Donald would say.
“So what if I break the law, cheat on my taxes or sell condos to Russians?"
“So what if I break all the rules, for me there are no repercussions”
“So what if I say things I know aren’t true”
“So what if I do things no one else would dare do”
“I get away with it, all the time, so what’s it to you?”
Now, Peter Baker writes in the Times that Donald’s behavior is “breathtaking”
Reminding us that Hillary Clinton’s $100,000 profit once was thought career-breaking
But “Trump Blares Profits, Eliciting Barely a Peep” reads the headline, and Baker counts the ways
From $28 million from Jeff Bezos to Melania, to 300 mill from crypto for the family;
A new club in Georgetown for Don Jr that costs half a million to get in the door;
A new plane for Dad worth two hundred million more;
Private dinners with investors and those seeking favors like pardons
And at every objection, Donald’s determination only hardens
“So what?” says Donald, and you know what’s worse?
What the newspaper calls “normalization” is really a curse
(Though Baker’s a blessing, with writing like this:
The death of outrage in the Trump era, or at least the dearth of outrage, exemplifies how far the president has moved the lines of accepted behavior in Washington.)
That so-called “normalizing” is a win for “so what?”
Now everyone’s saying it, no matter who does what.
“So what?” says Donald, and people agree
They don’t think politics can be noble, unlike you and me.
“So what?” if they’re grifters, Donald’s voters will say
“Trump makes me laugh, and we talk the same way”
“So what?” may be Donald’s mantra but we can’t echo that call
Corruption’s real, but exposed it can cause leaders to fall.
